Used for tumors that take up MIBG such as neuroblastoma, the treatment is intravenously injected over the course of two hours, which is made up of MIBG, which functions as a carrier that delivers I131 to tumor cells as to discharge sufficient radiation exterminating the target cells. For this treatment you should be admitted to a hospital for at least 3 days, below are a set of instructions to follow: Fasting from solid food for at least 2 hours before and two hours after treatment is required. The following medications should be withheld for 5 days at least: Tricyclic antidepressants Antihypertensives Sympathomimetics Decongestants containing pseudoephedrine, phenylpropanolamine and phenylephrine Before and after the treatment Lugol’s solution should be administered as instructed. As a baseline both a CBC and a KFT (Kidney Function Test) should be provided. An anti-emetic should be administered the same day the treatment was administered to be carried on over the course of 3 days. The radiopharmaceutical will be intravenously injected over two hours. Fluid intake increase and frequent urination are requested.
