Salivary Scan

This test is ordered to explore the causes of persistent mouth diseases or swollen glands, through assessing the pattern by which the tracer is received and expelled. Allowing the physician to assess whether it is due to infection obstruction or inflammation. This test mainly assesses the functions of the salivary glands, the parotid and submandibular glands that are located below the ears on the sides of the jaw.

Fasting: Is not preferred as you will be requested to considerably increase fluid intake, consequently increasing urination frequency.

Medication contradiction: Medications may be resumed as usual.

Tracer administration: The radio pharmaceutical tracer will be injected intravenously.

Examination duration: The imaging process will take up from 35 minutes. Imaging will be conducted immediately after the injection then you will be requested to drink some lemon juice and the imaging will be resumed for 5 more minutes.

Additional related examinations: Additional imaging maybe required depending on the examination outcome.
